NOTE: Mellon requires all applicants interested in being nominated by their respective institution to register in the Mellon Higher Concept Call portal and complete an eligibility quiz by 3:00 pm on Monday, December 1, 2025.

- There are no institutional limits to the number of individuals from Harvard who can register in the portal.
- Registering in Mellon’s portal does not obligate anyone to apply internally.
Amount: Between $250,000 and $500,000 is available
- Up to 10% is available for program operational, administrative and occupancy costs tied to grant funded activities.
Project timeline: Up to four (4) years

The Mellon Foundation’s 2026 Higher Learning Concept Call invites research and/or curricular proposals focused on one of the two areas prioritized by the Mellon Foundation
- Unruly Intelligences
- Normalization and Its Discontents
Harvard University may put up to three (3) proposals forward to the Mellon Foundation. The Office of the Vice Provost for Research is facilitating and internal application process for interested and eligible applicants at Harvard University.
