Russ Ashenden, Ph.D. serves as a Senior Research Compliance Officer within the Office of the Vice Provost for Research. In this capacity, Russ works to support and facilitate the conduct of research through the review, development and implementation of University-wide research policies. Russ advises researchers and department administrators on compliance issues across the University with a specific focus on research security, international collaborations, and sponsored activities.
Prior to joining the Office of the Vice Provost for Research, Russ was a Senior Analyst supporting the Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Research and Engineering focusing on academic research protection. His work at the Pentagon included developing risk-based security review policies and procedures for Department of Defense funded research to align with National Security Presidential Memorandum 33 and newly enacted Public Laws. Russ is a retired FBI Special Agent and holds graduate degrees in Atmospheric Science and an undergraduate degree in Aerospace Engineering.
